Dieting- Not something that anybody really enjoys. However the results of a successful diet are well worth the hard work.

You’re wondering how large or small a deficit should be. The answer is, well, there is no right or wrong answer.

It’s also dependant on your goals. If you have a time specific goal, you could potentially be looking at an aggressive diet, which would include a large deficit in order to hit your target in that specific time frame.

If you have no specific time frame, the correct answer to what size your deficit should be is whatever you can adhere to. If you can be comfortable in a 1000-1200 calorie deficit without it making you feel lethargic, starving all day or feeling miserable, then this could be optimal for you.

If a 400-600 calorie deficit is a good place for you to sit at without feeling hangry,(Yes, hungry + angry), then sit inside this range.

Life’s too short to diet forever, however it is also necessary to see results. If you are capable of hitting your goals quicker with a huge deficit, which will in turn make your dieting process much shorter, then you should go for this. The quicker you get to where you want to be, the quicker you can return to maintenance without putting on any excess body fat.

However, if this just isn’t sustainable for you, slow and steady will win the race!
